"(Ital.) Rome. Beatrice Cenci in prison. 68 x 52. Guido Reni is here represented as taking Cenci's portrait, the day before her execution, which occurred September 11th, 1599. She was forced, by horrible tortures, to admit her complicity in the murder of her father, a noble villain who was assassinated at the instigation of his own wife. She was beheaded and buried in San Pietro-in-Montorio, Rome."
