"(Dutch.) The Hague. Pupil of Kruseman of Amsterdam. commissioner of the Netherlands to the exposition of 1878. A forced contribution. 35 x 25. The fortune of war has placed the property of the master of the mansion at the mercy of the stern commander, to whom he is handing over the key of the strong box, which is being carried by two attendants. The 'law of the stronger' is powerfully emphasized in this fine picture. the faces of the chief actors as well as their costumes deserve more than a passing glance."
