1876
Notes:
Appears in exhibition catalog as entry no. 113
This magnificent and precious painting, like all these of the great master, is sufficiently striking and needs no other comment. It was obtained but in a very bad condition from a missionary in the lower parts of the river. It required the greatest care to preserve it as it is now seen. [P. 11; see entry 04100034 for a note on the work's provenance.]
