These are painted by Gerard Honthorst. He excelled in figures by candle-light and of natural size. All his works are painted in the same style, which caused him to be called the Gerard of the Nights. (Gerardo delle Notte.) In that style he had not his equal. [P. 8; entries 04100046, 04100047, 04100048, 04100049, and 04100050 were exhibited together under heading: "Five of the Capital Sins."
