Sheldon Clark was Born in Oxford, Conn., January 31, 1785. . . . He died in Oxford, suddenly, in consequence of an accident, April 10, 1840, aged 55 years, and his remains rest in the church yard at Pane's Bridge. This portrait was painted in 1823, by S.F.B. Morse. [Pp. 21-23; excerpted from a detailed biography of the sitter.]
