This likeness of George I, with the king's arms, was sent to the College, among other presents, by Gov. Yale, in 1717. It is an original painting by Sir Godfrey Kneller. Some over-zealous patriot destroyed the king's arms, during the revolutionary war. George I was born in 1660, succeeded Queen Anne on the throne of England in 1714, and died in 1727. [P. 6.]
