Hagar and Ishmael in the Desert--Genesis Chapter XXI, (painting)
Appears in exhibition catalog as entry no. 112 (Sale info: For Sale).
Hagar has recovered from the despondency caused by the thought that Ishmael is about to die of thirst and exhaustion. She has heard the voice of the "Angel of God" calling to her: "Arise, lift up the lad in thine hand, for I will make him a great nation." Still struggling between hope and fear, she obeys the voice, but is supposed not yet to have discovered the "well of water" which is to relieve the sufferings of herself and boy. [P. 6.]
