"Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., 1830. Studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and under J.R. Lambdin, Philadelpia, and later in Paris and Munich. First exhibited, 1859, at the National Academy, New York. Elected N.A., 1868. Vice president of the Artists' Fund Society of Philadelphia, member of the Artists' Fund Society of New York, and Professor in the Philadelphia school of Design." [P. XLII.]
