"Born in Indiana, 1849. Was a pupil of the National Academy, New York, under Professor Wilmarth, and of the Royal Academy, Munich, under Professors Piloty and Wagner. First exhibited, 1869, at the National Academy, New York. Awarded three medals at the Academy in Munich; honorable mention at the Salon, Paris, 1882; and medal at the Munich Exposition of 1883. Member of the American Water Color Society, the New York Etching Club, and of the Society of American Artists." [P. XXXIV.]
