"b. Middleburg, Holland, 1803. Pupil of Schelfhout and Van Os. Chevalier of the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands, and of the Order of Leopold, of Belgium. Medals awarded at Paris, Amsterdam, and the Hague. Member of the academies of Rotterdam and St. Petersburg, and of the Society of Arts, of London. 'The landscapes of this artist are much esteemed.' (Clement and Hutton.) He established a drawing Academy at Cleves, and published a volume of his 'souvenirs and communications' in 1850. D. 1862." [P. 71.]
