"See no. 223. No other man in Europe paints such sheep as Jacque paints, yet in the exposition gallery there is now a small 'sheep' picture by Charles T. Phelan that not only looks like a Jacque but suggests that artist's very best work. It is fresh, artistic, and wonderfully true. - Courier-Journal, August 3, 1884."
