Secretary of the National Academy from 1852 to the present time. First director of Cooper Union school of art for women, 1858-1860. Professor of art in the University of New York since 1867. Author of a number of art works. " His works all show that sure artistic sense of the elements of beauty which have heretofore given the artist his rank in the art production of the country. - N.Y.
