"b. Portland, Me. The great fire in that city destroying her home and causing the death of her father, she removed to Boston and entered upon the study of art. Studied with William M. Hunt, in Boston, and with Daubigny, in France, enjoying the exceptional privilege of painting with the latter in the country, in his boat on the River Oise, and of living in friendly intimacy with his family. Has also studied in Germany and Italy; spent some time in Rome." [P. 45.]
