"b. Chicago, Ill., 1846. Pupil of L'Ecole des Beaux Arts and of J.L. Gerome, Paris. Exhibits yearly in the Salon and in various New York exhibitions. He is peculiarly successful in the rendition of flesh, and the color effects in his paintings are usually very fine. His works are already in good demand, and their popularity is extending." [P. 23.]
