"b. New York City, 1842. Was in business there until 1870, when he visited Rome and entered the studio of J.G. Chapman. In 1874, he became a member of the Art Students' League, of New York, at its foundation, and was its first president. Has traveled extensively in the east, and has made many studies in egypt.
