"N.A., New York. b. Francestown, N.H., 1832. In 1850 entered the studio of alexander ransom, in Boston, and began portrait painting. Later studied in the National Academy of Design, New York, and devoted himself more particularly to landscape and cattle painting. " There is a true pastoral vein in him. His best cattle and water scenes, with meadows and trees, are eloquent of repose and of nature. - Tuckerman, Book of the Artists." [P. 46.]
