"Paris. b. Vermont, 1852. Went to Europe in 1874, and studied with Inness in Rome for two years; later, for a few months, with Gerome in Paris. Then he lived and painted in Brittany, working under Robert Wylie until the death of the later. Les Pres de St. Vast. A picture marvelous in its effects of light and atmosphere. Excellent in perspective, quality, and color." [P. 46.]
