At an early age began his professional work as an engraver with the American Bank Note Company, New York, studying in his leisure hours in the schools of the Brooklyn Art Association. Later, studied with Gerome, in Paris, of whom he was a favorite pupil. Medals, and Chevalier of the Legion of Honor.
