A Drawing deposited by J.J. Hunt and executed by a little girl 12 years of age, is very good for so young an artist. It would transcend our desire, and perhaps our duty, even were we competent to the task, to criticise closely the pictures presented for competition. We may, however, be permitted to advise the young artist, and a large proportion of the competitors are of this class; to precede their attempts at coloring by a long and thorough study of drawing, without which it is difficult, if not impossible, to attain to more than mediocrity in the divine art. [P. 41; the words "drawing" and "divine art" appear in italics in the catalogue.]
