Copy by Bryant, from an original painting by Ingham. Mr. Wadsworth is the only son of Col. Jeremiah Wadsworth, well known for his Revolutionary services, and sole donor of the admirable site on which the Athenaeum, bearing his name, is erected, and forever dedicated to distinct objects of History, Literature, and Art. After contributing freely to build this edifice and collect the paintings here exhibited, he still lives (1844) to take a lively interest in the prosperity and usefulness of the various institutions which are accommodated in the Atheneum.
