The moon rises over a placid lake, on the margin of which are the ruins of a temple; the porch, supported by Corinthian columns, stand entire, protecting a marble statue, probably of one of the muses; near an arched gateway is seen another piece of sculpture, of a knight defending a woman crouching at his feet; on the opposite side are hills and mountains, receding in the distance, their tops visible through the clear atmosphere, glistening in the moonlight.
