By REMBRANDT, (Van Ryn,) a celebrated Historical and Portrait Painter, and also an excellent engraver, born at a village near Leyden, in 1606, and died in 1674, aged 68; his real name was Gerretez; but he is known by the name of Van Ryn; a name given to him from the place where he spent the youthful part of his life which was on the borders of the Rhine. The works of Rembrandt, are held in such estimation, that it is superfluous to speak of them here; they are well known all over the world. [P. 9.]
