(Abbeville, 1598; Paris, 1688.) Fr. He adopted a novel mode of operating with single parallel lines, without cross-strokes, the shadows being expressed by the same line being made stronger. "Executed with a single spiral line, begun at the extremity of the nose, and continued, without quitting, over the whole face and back-ground, with single parallel lines, without any cross-strokes over them, the shadows being expressed by the same lines being made stronger, and, consequently, nearer together." [P. 35.]
