Artist:
VanHove, Victor
Type:
Paintings
Exhibition Catalogs
Date:
1876
Notes:
Appears in exhibition catalog as entry no. 243 (Sale info: For Sale).
The most important work of a famous master affords a fine contrast, in treatment and color, to the work of Bouguereau, of similar motive. Lacking the brilliancy of tint and pose--theatrical in the best sense--of the latter, it affords a transparency of shadow, and tender softness of color in the light, most admirable. [P. 31; see entry 03530227 for other work noted in this commentary.]
