1876
Notes:
Appears in exhibition catalog as entry no. 133
This picture has not only the vivid realism, but also the deep suggestive thought for which this great artist is famous. The bottomless abyss in contrast with the snow-capped peak, and the blasted pine with the perennial green of its mate, tells a dramatic story, with that power for which Calame alone is distinguished.
