Italian. 1488-1534. Goldsmith, niellist [sic], and engraver. "Raimondi's greatness consisted in his susceptibility, and in his power of reproduction--these are the qualities which constitute a great engraver. From his works, as from a mirror, we become familiar with his great contemporaries Raphael, Francia, and others; he caught their transient thoughts--the unfinished hasty sketches--and held them fast in the iron bands of his art; and he has contributed the most to the establishment of whatever is noble, in the Italian school of art." B. 245. [Pp. 11-12.]
