This painting is an undoubted original, as substantiated by documents of unquestionable authenticity. It was painted in the year 1638, and was originally the property of the Duke of St. Albans. It came into the possession of the present owner through the Countess de Schoenberg of Saxony, who, as a lineal descendent of St. Albans, received it as an heir-loom. [P. 11.]
