Notes:

A peasant girl and boy on horses are driving some cows, sheep and a goat over a mountain stream. The horse with the girl has stopped in the middle of the stream, waiting for the other, which appears reluctant to enter the water. On the left of the view is a steep hill with trees, around the base of which a road is seen winding, and from the opposite side rises a bold height surmounted by a tower. A lurid heavy sky overhangs the scene, portending a stormy close to a sultry day. [Pp. 4-5.]
