"The picture bears the initials of the artist, who was born in 1666, and died in 1742. He is said to have drawn this picture while the battle was in progress. It was in the gallery at Nilkheim, near Frankfort, until 1846, when it was sold at one of the greatest sales of paintings of late years, and purchased by a New York merchant, who brought it to this country."
