"This small and beautiful picture is an undoubted copy of this illustrious painter's original one. In the carnation there appears an inexpressible delicacy. It is impossible to see any thing more tender, more soft, or more round than this figure, without the least harshness of outline. As to the colouring, it cannot so justly be called a beautiful imitation of nature, as nature itself; the light and shade is beautifully distri- buted. The whole has a very striking and astonishing effect, a fine copy from Corregio." [P. 11-12.]
