Born 1799; d. 1865. John Neagle, who was born in Boston in 1799, began life as a coach-painter. He afterwards obtained considerable reputation as a painter of portraits. His best picture is a full-length portrait of Patrick Lyon, the blacksmith, the property of the Boston Athenaeum. [P. 9; exhibited under heading: "Oil Paintings."]
