"1856 (Dusseldorf). A remarkably grand canvas, painted by an eminent German artist, long resident in this country. The horses touched in with great vigor - color very quiet, and the drawing unusually good for paintings of this class. It is worthy of a place in any collection of modern pictures." [P. 30.]
