This superb picture is an undoubted original by the celebrated Dutch painter, and is a fine example of the school of his day. It was presented by the old Duke of Sussex to the father of its present owner, when he was in England in 1839. This is the only work by Cuyp in this country, and is one of his best. [P. 36.]
Exhibition of Paintings, Engravings, Drawings, Aquarelles, and Works of Household Art, in the Cincinnati Industrial Exposition. MDCCCLXXIV. Entered, according to act of Congress, in the year 1874.
