The treatment of this picture shows the poetic character of its author. It has always been a marked criticism of the works of American painters, that they have not combined landscape with figures. Mr. Thom knows how to unite these with attractive sentiment. This picture, with many others, comes from the house of John C. Thom & Co., of New York. John C. Thom is a brother of James Crawford Thom, the artist. [P. 20.]
