By Lewis B. Harris, Esq. of Sacramento, are exhibited a series of Dutch landscape and cottage scenes, in oil, possessing much merit as regards elaboration of finish. They belong to the pre-Raphaelite school. The extreme nicety of finish of this school is more painful than pleasing to our eyes, especially so in landscape. The figure pieces of the same school are, to our taste, more acceptable. [P. 218.]
