Best Portrait in Oil, (life size.)--To S.W. Shaw, of San Francisco--first premium. Subject--"Dr. Bourne." This portrait is forcible in drawing and truthful in color. The beard and hair are beautifully painted, and "the likeness," says the critic of the San Francisco "Evening Bulletin," who ought to know, startling enough to put into a spontaneous vapor-bath any one accustomed to visit the Doctor's establishment." [P. 208; entries 02620032, 02620033, 02620034, and 02620035 were exhibited together as: "Seven portraits in oil on canvas, drawn from life."]
