Head of an Old Man, (painting)

Denner (copy after)
Exhibition Catalogs
Appears in exhibition catalog as entry no. [not numbered]
Besides the pictures and works already described in the section of award of premiums, there remain many other highly valuable foreign productions on exhibition, and likewise various meritorious specimens of native talent, worthy of special notice. Foremost among these are the contributions of Dr. V.J. Fourgeaud, of Sacramento, amounting to seven in number, as follows: Second--"Head of an Old Man." This is a remarkably correct copy of the celebrated painting by Balthazar Denner, in the gallery of Berlin, for which forty thousand thalers were paid by the King of Prussia. It is a fine, strong, and bold, head, both in drawing and color. [P. 218; see entry 02620006 for related commentary.]
