A small coast scene in Harding's collection, although somewhat hard, is pleasingly finished. The subject is peculiar; there is a level beach which ends at gray rocks rising abruptly, while in the distance to the left, is the dim blue of the sea line. There is truthfulness in the coloring, but while the picture is one of those undoubtedly ornamental, yet it lacks force, and must be ranked as mediocre. [P. 80.]
