The entry made by Mr. S.A. Coale, Jr., for the premium of $250 for the best collection of oil paintings owned and exhibited by an amateur has no competition, and indeed we doubt if it could have in this city. It might be surpassed in number of pictures, but it includes works from the studios of so many celebrated artists, that its equal could not be found, except in the possession of some private citizen, equally interested in art, and who has spent the same amount of care, time and money in collecting good pictures; and this it is not easy to find in the Western country.
