"Sunset on the Ocean," by J.R. Meeker. The property of O.B. Filley. A view in mid-ocean, with the setting sun tinging sky and waves with crimson. "It is after a storm, and the sky is troubled with broken clouds and cumuli; but, in the center, above the sun, are cloud-flecks that seem like blood-stains from some wounded Olympian. The crests of the ledges, crimson and semi-transparent, painted with splendid force and truth, and, although small, show three of the first essentials of the artist--color, conception, and vigorous manipulation." [P. 66; exhibited under heading: "Water-Colors."]
