7. "Coast Scene," by William Hart, National Academician. This little gem discovers a mine of feeling, and the nicest phenomenal perception. The admirable painting of the outstretching sea, the faithful outlines of the distant mountain forms, the picturesque pier, the beautiful irradiation of the sun-lit beach, chaste color and luminous atmosphere, unite to make the ensemble of this picture all that could be desired, and one of Hart's best. [P. 61; exhibited under heading: "Paintings." The word "ensemble" appears in italics in the catalogue.] PAINTING IN OIL (ORIGINAL). Marine.--First premium of diploma and $30 to Wm. Hart's "Coast Scene;" second, of $15, to James Fairman's "Breeze in the Bay"--both belonging to Mr. Cole's collection. [P. 69; see entry 02560012 for other work noted in this commentary.]
