Not far from this picture were two swamp scenes, one somewhat larger than the other. The misty and dreary desolation of a cypress swamp is painted with great fidelity, and the pictures attracted much attention. They indicate artistic skillfulness of execution and keen observance of nature. [P. 104; see entry 02550062 for related commentary.]
