For best Landscape, the gem by Julius Kummer, of St. Louis, representing Gosan Lake, in the Austrian Alps, was awarded the first premium, a diploma and $20. The still water of the sheltered lake, and the foreground of broken rocks, are forcibly painted in this picture. The second premium, a silver medal, was given to Rudolph Moeller's artistic and beautiful "View of the Mississippi." [P. 98; see entry 02550015 for other work noted in this commentary.]
