THE VANZANDT PREMIUMS FOR YOUNG ARTISTS. The following liberal premiums were offered by Dr. Wm. Vanzandt, of St. Louis, to be awarded at the Exhibition in 1859, and it is his intention to offer these prizes annually. As it is his desire to develop and encourage the youthful talent of the Mississippi Valley, competition is restricted to youths under fifteen years of age, and residents of the valley. For best Original Oil or Water Color Painting.--Study from animate or inanimate nature.--To WASHINGTON MATTHEWS, Dubuque, Iowa, was awarded the first premium, seventy-five dollars, and to Miss FANNY MOORE, of Cape Girardeau, the second premium, twenty-five dollars.
