Plain Photographs. OUTLEY & WILLIAMS, to whom was awarded the first premium, Grand Silver Medal, exhibited some superb Photographs, which were much admired. They had almost a vitality about them, which showed how masterly they were executed. To the same gentlemen was awarded a Grand Silver Medal for a Photograph view. The premium photograph was a View of Alton, the flourishing city on the Mississippi, on the Illinois side. [P. 133; see entry 02510213 for other work noted in this commentary.]
