PAINTINGS IN OIL OF THE ANIMAL KINGDOM. (Original.) 1st Premium, Diploma and $20; 2d Premium, Medal. Mr. C.H. Elleard of St. Louis entered two fine Oil Paintings in this department, by Mr. G.W. Hone of Quincy, Ills. The Painting representing some Durham Cattle took the first premium, though but little superior to one representing a Horse. These were true to nature, and the coloring excellent. The artist himself had on exhibition several other works of a similar kind, but, as he had not entered them for competition, the committee could not award them a premium.
