Plain Photographs.--To some finely executed photographs by John A. Scholten, St. Louis, was adjudged the premium, Grand Silver Medal. Among the number of photographs we recognized Col. Pritchard, Henry W. Williams, G.O. Kalb, O.W. Barret, and others of our citizens. Mr. Scholten took a similar premium for Photographic Views. His entry represented the Engineer Corps as they were encamped on the Fair Grounds last summer. They are on drill, and Captains Gray and McKellops are conspicuous in the foreground; while in the background the tents are plainly visible, and also Art Hall, ensconsed amid a cluster of forest trees. [P. 100; see entries 02490053, 02490054, 02490055, 02490056, 02490057, and 02490058 for other works noted in this commentary.]
