"And to the same gentleman was awarded the premium, diploma and twenty dollars, for painting in composition water colors. This last painting excited universal attention - it was a happy subject. It represented a zouave of the African army; and the dress, attitude, equipments and all, were in keeping with the ideas one would form of these wild and warlike soldiers."
