Marine, in Oil.--The first premium, Diploma and fifteen dollars, was decreed to a fine marine production entered by D.B. Walcutt, St. Louis. It represented the breakers of the ocean washing against a rocky promontory on which stood a lighthouse, with sea-gulls flying thick through the air. Both of the premium articles were fine specimens of marine painting. [Pp. 96-97; see entry 02490022 for other work noted in this commentary.]
