Many of our painters exhibit marked improvement, especially in the landscape department. Mr. Beckett's landscapes are too well known to require comment. His landscape on "Saguenay River" is, we are assured by those familiar with the locality, a most faithful representation of its striking scenery. Mr. Beckett deserves great praise for his efforts to make us acquainted with the sublime character of a portion of our continent hitherto so little known.
